The Up Value Of A Surge Arrester Needs To Be Considered Comprehensively.

In industrial-grade power system design, the voltage protection level (Up value) parameter of high voltage lightning arrester is not simply a matter of the lower the better. The Up value represents the residual voltage level of the 33kv lightning arrester during discharge, and its magnitude varies with the maximum continuous operating voltage (Uc) and other technical parameters. Market standards and specifications such as IEC61643-11 and GB/T18802.1 have clear requirements for Up. The Up value of the selected 10 kv lightning arrester should meet or be slightly higher than the measured limit residual voltage value to meet the insulation characteristics of the connection system and the actual overvoltage environment conditions.

The rated voltage of the system, the grounding type, and the impulse voltage withstand rating of the equipment are important factors in determining the range of Up values. A low Up value reduces the peak surge voltage transmitted to the protected terminal, which is beneficial for improving the voltage limiting effect on sensitive equipment. However, Up and Uc are inherently related; a high Uc will push up Up, leading to an increase in the voltage transmission level.
