Older homes don't necessarily need earth bonding rod.
Newer buildings have a ground rod 3 4 x 10 system, so be sure to connect a ground wire during renovations. If you're buying a pre-owned home over 25 years old, most don't have a ground rod 8 ft system and don't need a ground wire. Connecting a ground wire to your home only provides safety protection if the building has a threaded copperbond earth rod system; otherwise, the electricity won't reach the ground.
