The armor rods for acsr fittings used for the terminals, suspensions, and joints of overhead power conductors and power overhead optical cables first appeared in the United States in the 1940s and 1950s. The initial products were spiral protective wires used to protect bare conductor stress concentration locations and electrical corrosion and arc burn locations.
