Why Should Surge Arresters Be Installed At The Power Input End Of The Charging Station?
In the electrical design of electric vehicle charging facilities, 9kv 5ka lightning arrester is usually placed at the power input terminal of the charging pile. This location directly faces the external power supply network and is the first path for all external power to enter the equipment. High-voltage pulses from atmospheric discharge or from a distant part of the power supply system travel along the power line, first passing through the AC/DC power input interface before entering the equipment. Placing 9kv lightning arrester at this point allows transient voltages from the network side to be directed to ground along a predetermined path, rather than continuing to propagate to downstream electrical modules and control units, thus reducing the magnitude of the impact on the electrical system.
Charging piles are often located in outdoor environments, and the length and burial method of the power supply line make them more sensitive to external lightning interference. Installing the lighting arrester 11kv at the power supply inlet can intercept high-voltage pulses propagating along the line earlier, enabling the equipotential connection between the protection element and the system to function, thereby reducing the risk of end equipment being subjected to transient overvoltages.
