Insulator Application In 10 Kv Ring Main Units

In a ring main unit, the tension insulator component serves to support and isolate the electric field between the live conductor and the grounded metal. Its material typically has extremely low conductivity to suppress the current flow path between the conductors. Within the 10kV switchgear structure, the necessary electrical clearances and creepage distances can be set through precise design of the dead end insulators, ensuring that the required power system space is maintained between live components and suppressing possible surface flashover and dielectric breakdown.

Internal components of the ring main unit, such as load switches, fuses, and cable joints, require effective separation from grounded parts such as the metal casing and cable shielding. As the dielectric layer between these interfaces, the shape and insulation material properties of dead end suspension insulators determine the insulation performance of each part under high voltage and provide predictable electrical isolation conditions for switching operations.
