High-voltage Disconnect Switches In Power Systems

As a basic piece of equipment, hv isolator switch is mainly used to mechanically disconnect parts that need to be de-energized from the energized system, creating a clear isolation state when repairing or inspecting electrical equipment. Its structural design typically consists of an insulating support, blade contacts, and an operating mechanism. When high voltage electrical isolator separates, a visible air gap is formed between the contacts.

In power substations and distribution lines, isolator high voltage is installed on busbars, beside circuit breakers, and at outgoing terminals, allowing technicians to confirm the power status at exposed disconnection points and thus arrange subsequent maintenance work. Different structural forms, such as radial and column-mounted, are available to adapt to diverse environmental, installation method, and system voltage level requirements.
