The research team represented by a professor at the University of Arizona in the United States used a single-needle-one-plate electrode to generate corona. By observing the surface state, weight loss, FTIR spectrum, etc. of the synthetic insulator after different corona times, the electrical aging mechanism of pre insulated sleeve in a humid environment was studied. The results verified the hypothesis that chemical reactions are the dominant factor in the corona aging of silicone rubber materials.
